How to get my SSN?

Hi,

My H1B is pending and my EAD has been approved on June,20. I guess I have to wait another month to get the card. Right now I\'m H4 visa holder. So I don\'t have SSN. Is it possible for me to apply for SSN with pending H1B or approved EAD? Please help.

You can go to local SS office and get you SS#. I don\'t see any problem in that. You can get it on the basis of H4.

But I did that last year. They refused my application.
Did they change the law this year?

There\'s now way you should be denied your SSN# application. When we first came here my wife was not working and was on a dependent visa. She was able to get her SSN# and it simply said not valid for work on it. As long as you have proof that you are in the country legally you should be able to get your SSN#.
