How to get my application fee back ? Don't apply RTD if your greencard is coming soon

I was applying for RTD in 08/2005. My application has been on hold due to a technical reason. Last week I received my green card, therefore no longer needs a RTD to travel abroad. I don't need either a Reentry Permit which is for a permanent resident living outside US for over 1 year.

In short, currently I do not need to file an I-131 application. Then how can I get my $165 application fee back?

Just asking. I understand it is almost a mission impossible. No meat will be vomited out of a wolf's mouth.

how are you going travel? Most countries in the world require a travel document before admitting you. A green card is not enough.

sad! this is a lost cause... if you press too much, you will get neither (no fee return + application denied cuz you dont want it).. why no fee return?? because some officer "looked" at your RTD application causing stress to his/her eyes.. By the way if you don't have RTD and neither Re-entry permit, how you are going to travel to countries (except canada and mexico)? are you planning to use NP?

Thank you for reminding me this, Camcast and Lazer. I do need a Reentry Permit as a password substitution.

I may resubmit my I-131 for Reentry Permit, but don't know if they will charge me another $165.

Hope you both will get your approvels very soon!

I doubt that they will agree to a substitution of your applications. If you want to have a Reentry Permit (validity two years) you will have forfeit your original fee and pay it again.

Your best bet is probably to send them your current RTD so that you will receive a new one. When that one expires then you should apply for a RP (unless you are going to a country where a RTD is required).

excuse my stupidity... but I was reading about Reentry Permit and it seems like that it is only used to enter the US but cannot serve as passport substition ie travel document? Where can I find the law that one can use RP for travel purpose?

Reentry permit can serve as a passport. Just google it.

As a matter of fact it looks just like a RTD, with a different name and a different validity date on it.

You must be right here. USCIS always tries every effort to dig our pockets. It is very likely that I will have to pay another $165 for submitting a new I-131 form. It doesn't hurt to try.

I believe I dont need a RTD anymore. Because as soon as an asylee is becoming a permanent resident, he/she is no longer an asylee. It would be illegal to continue using RTD as travle document which is only for refugees and asylees.

Anyway, when I applied for my new RTD in August, I could not imagine/dream my green card coming before my new RTD. So I should have nothing to complain about for the little $165 :D

Actually a permanent resident who was an asylee is still eligible for a RTD. Look at the form.

"A refugee travel document is issued to a person classified as a refugee or asylee, or to a permanent resident who obtained such status as a result of being a refugee or asylee in the United Sates." -- I-131

Yes. You are right. I missed it. Thanks a lot!

Ok. I am going to submit a new I-131 and ask them to give me a Reentry Permit, if impossible, then just give me a RTD. In either case I won't waste my bloody $165 :D
