How to get interim EAD

How to get interim EAD? Is there any specific req for it? My wife's EAD is expired on 1/1/2004 and Driving license too because of EAD. She has to renew her DL but they want new EAD for it. So what is solution for it?

Any idea?

In two situations you can apply EAD or interim EAD in the local USCIS office:

1. You EAD application in a service center has been pending for more than 90 days, then you can go to the local office and apply interim EAD. If you are lucky, you get in the same day.

2. You I-485 has been transfered to the local office, then you can apply EAD in the local office which is normally much faster than in the service center.

In any other cases, I'm afraid you have to wait for more than 90 days to receive EAD according to the current speed.
 
Accrding to USCIS, if you applied EAD renewal for more than 90 days and the case is stll pending, you can obtain an iEAD at your local office. Some people has the experience that just going there without making an appointment. My suggestion is to make an appointmant to secure your time and hopefully save some time.
