Now i have my EAD which is valid for a year but i would like to get my drivers liscense.I understand i must first have a SS# to do that. But my question is a LPN OR US citizen has a Dl that is valid for a specific amount of time.Since i am neither right now.And my Ead is valid for a year will i have to get a different type of Dl that will also expire within a year or will it not matter ?.

go get ss first and then apply for dl and it all depends on your state some states issued dl for as long as your ead is valid some just give u one for 5 years goodluck.

In my case (Indiana) I had to first get a permit and hold it for 60 days before I was allowed to take the test. To just get the permit I had to hand over evidence of who I was SS#, Bank Card, and a few bills showing my address and my EAD card. I also took in numerous letters/receipt notices from the USCIS of which they copied as extra evidence.

After the 60 days had past, I took the test, passed and then had to show all the same stuff again. I was given a piece of paper showing I was allowed to drive and had to wait 60 more days to get my actual card license in the mail. The Indiana BMV said they've changed things around recently and all immigration documents had to be verified before getting my license.

I don't think they ever asked me what status I was here as. I got my license when I was an F1. Just bring your passport and EAD to the social security office. With that, at least in MA, you just need to fill out a form where it asks you for a social security number and that is it. Well you would probably need to have your learners permit first.
