Hi,

Me and my husband are in j-2 and j-2 visas. We are unsure of Two year rule applicability.
While browsing the forum, came to know that we can send for advisory opinion for j-1 waiver to DOS.
I remember we've already the advisory opinion in Jan 2010 itself and didnt hear till now.

Can any one tell which is the official link to check the status of Advisory opinion process.

thanks,
Lalitha.

There is NO phone number or web site from DOS to check the Advisory Opinion progress.

To get an Advisory Opinion, write to the United States Department of State (DOS). The DOS is responsible for the administration of the Exchange Visitor program and the two-year foreign residence requirement. The advisory opinion request should include legible copies of every/all DS-2019/IAP-66 ever issued to you, along with a self-addressed envelope. See http://www.greencardapply.com/j1/j1_homerequire.htm

You can determine if you are subject to the rule by looking at the bottom-left of the DS-2019. There is a section about it, and at least one of the boxes should be checked.

Since you have already sent the request for advisory opinion, you will have to wait for the final verdict. They will re-evaluate your case, and the result may be different from what is indicated on your DS-2019.
