How to be paid for the articles I write?

Hi,

I am on EAD card with I-140 pending. I am with the same employer who sponsered by GC.

I would like to write some articles for magazines. Writing articles is not part of my employment and is done only on personal interest. I would like to know whether they can pay me directly? Is it LEGAL? If it is legal, how will be I paying tax on that amount?

Any clarification will be very helpful.

Will that change my status from H1 to one On EAD

May I ask one more question.,

Even though I got EAD card, I have not used it and hence I am still on my H1B status.

If I am paid directly, will I be still on my H1 status. If not, does this pose any problem to my GC process even I stick with the same employer.

More over, since my I-140 is not yet approved, will there be any problems?
