how soon can i apply extension?

i am on 7th year of h1b and have about 7 more months remaining for 7th year to get completed. i asked my attorney about applying for 8th year extension next month when i will have 6 months remaining, but he says they cant apply till there is about 4 months remaining. is this true, cant i apply 8th year extension 6 months in advance ?

--------------one CAN apply extension 6 months advance. i think your lawyer is busy ask him the law that says one need to file extension only 4 months advance
