How soon after quitting does the H1B get cancelled

Hello, I was wondering how soon after quitting does the H1B actually get cancelled?

I know there is a "10 day grace period" but how soon after you quit does the INS actually get notified of your quitting from yor job?
I want to travel and am wondering if the INS at the airport will know IMMEDIATELY after i quit that my H1B is no longer valid...my H1B expires on the day i quit.

Currently it takes

a little longer than 10 days (more likely 1 month) for INS to update its system on cancelled h1. As long as your I94 is valid you will not find any trouble at the airport. Not all Visas are checked in the INS system.
