How much can we wait when switching from CP to AOS

I am a Naturalized US Citizen. I petitioned my mother's I-130 in September 2009 when she was in India indicating Consular Processing. It is currently pending.
She entered America in mid-November 2009 on Visitor Visa with 6 months validity on the I-94. I am planning to file concurrently for her Adjustment of Status on the basis of the pending I130 petition. But in reading this forum it seems like I should wait about 3 months before filing.
That sounds like a fine idea for folks who are filing the I130 along with the I485 for their parents.
But in our case, the ball was set into motion by me filing the I130 almost 2.5 months ago. We run the risk of the I-130 getting approved and then the case being sent over to NVC and then to Bombay for Consular Processing.

We will then have to wait longer for the GC to get approved since USCIS will have to request the I-130 Approval from NVC.

Looking for some good advice.

Thanks.

By the time she gets an appointment for the I-485 medical, and the results come back, it will be into January anyway.

Did they trouble her at the airport because of the pending I-130?

No trouble at the airport...I-130 was not even mentioned. Medicals are already done as of last week. All paperwork is ready too...just need to update the dates and mail.
CP is a No-No. My Dad died couple of months ago in Bombay...can't leave Mom alone in India. She's gotta stay here and Adjust Status.

Question stands...do I wait 90 days and run the risk of the I-130 getting approved in the meantime or do I mail beforehand so the I-130 does not end up going to NVC.

As always...I appreciate your response and your rock solid performance overall.
