How many employment letters are needed for the whole GC process?
My NIW based I-140 was approved. Then I mailed I-485 application together with an emplyment letter years back. (I was a PhD student. The university departmental secretary wrote the letter for me.) Now I graduated and will go to a government agency.
My friend warned me that the government agency will not provide sponsorship. He said in the future, when USCIS starts to process my I485, they will ask me for another employment letter before they actually process my case. The letter can be very simple, like: This person is working in my lab in XXX area with $$$ salary. Although the letter is simple and describing the fact, my future supervisor may not be able to sign it IF this is a kind of sponsorship.
My questions are:
1. Will the second employment letter be required before my I485 case is taken from the USCIS shelf for final process? I heard that many people waited for a long time, then suddenly without any hints got the approval notices. Some people may get RFE, but generally, it is about paystub and tax. Are there any people who were asked for the second letter before their I485 was processed? (My friend said it was true 7 years ago.)
2. or is it true only for NIW cases?
3. Can paystubs replace employment letter?
4. Do you think the above fact-describing letter is a kind of sponsorship? (I applied for NIW green card by myself, without any sponsorship for I140. Because it is NIW case. No employer is required.) I think the supervisor should have the responsibility to describe the fact. So, it should NOT be sponsorship.
Please drp me some words if you have some experience.
Thanks!
