How many copies of AP

Just curious to know if the number of copies of AP sent to applicants vary from case to case or what. On this forum I have seen people mentioning 3 copies, 2 copies or whatever else. I have received just two from CSC.
Anyway even if I was supposed to receive 3 copies, there is nothing I can do about it..right? Is it safe to travel with 2 copies?

depend on service center VSC sends 2 NSC 3

You just need 2 copies. On your return, IO will keep 1 copy and stamp other. On your next trip, IO will only make a copy.

Not all the time though. I gave one original and one photocopy to IO. He stamped the original and gave it back to me. Kept the photocopy. This was Atlanta airport my first use of AP.
