How many attempts before you were selected?

Dear all,

I am new to this forum but I am glad I found it. I have been applying for the DV lottery since 2021 (hopefully I get selected this May). I have a quick question for those of you who are more experienced playing or attempting the lottery. How many times have you (or someone you know) tried before finally getting randomly selected? It would be interesting to know. Most people I see comment in this forum seem to have won it in their first attempt.

The expected number of trials before winning an yearly lottery with 1pc success rate such as the DV is 100 years.

I have not won it and I have applied since 2019 (both me and wife making the odds a bit better than 1pc). Other people have applied 20 or more years and in line with the expected number if trials before a win have not won it

There's a guy here that has been applying for over 10 years and he hasn't been picked. I'm also in the same boat, it's a lottery so.. you won't find a lot of people saying they were selected.

I have been applying since 2015, never got selected. My wife was selected in her 1st application for DV2025. That's pure luck and chance, nothing else. Even if you're selected, the CN matters, so seeing that winner letter sometimes does not mean anything.

Congrats to your wife and that must mean she put you as a spouse when she was applying and that you will get the chance to go with her. Good

Keep your hopes up. You will be called in time for you to have your interview and get the visa before the end of the FY.
