I am a canadian on TN. After one month, I decided to leave the job. I will be informing the employer this week. How long can I stay after leaving the employer. I need to stay for at least 2 weeks to close my lease, car etc., Please advise urgently.

I found another job and will be returning with a TN from the new employer.

Thanks

If you quit your job, you will be out of status immediately and will be required to leave the US asap..To avoid this, get a new job, apply for the new TN (for the new employer) and then quit your current job...

If your new employer applies for TN, can you stay on in US during the period between previous employer exit and new employer TN processing time. Do not like to continue with prev employer, since working atmosphere is not good.

I do not think so... I my opinion, you are out of status as soon as your TN employment is terminated....To stay in the US while your new TN is processed, you need to be in some status. Either stick with your current job (and be in TN status) or change your status to B2 if you decide to quit your present job..

Canadians do not require visa as a tourist or for short visits upto 1 month. Does this apply if I stay a week after leaving the employer (who arranged TN status)

They don't require a visa, but they are still granted B status upon entry when coming in as a visitor.

No. When your TN expires, or you leave the sponsoring company, that TN status is now void, at which point you would be out of status. To get into B status, you would either need to re-enter the US as a tourist, or file for a change of status BEFORE your TN status expires. You can't file for a change of status AFTER your TN status ends, since you would not have a status to change from.

I was assuming that another TN petition had already been filed. If not, then you are correct.
