How long, on average, for everything?

Dear all,

I just sent in my I-485 adjustment of status to LPR (finally!!) yesterday and I believe I enclosed everything that USCIS requested. Now, my question to all who have been through the process, is how long, on average, to get stuff? Say, how long to get my ND? How long to get my finger print notice? How long to the request for my medical? And finally, how long to get my GC? Your experience will help me know on average how long everything is going to take, thanks in advance.

1-4 weeks:Receipt: Hope to get your Receipt notice(ND) within 1 week..4 weeks is also possible depending on the workload at USCIS.

3-5 Months: RFI: Before the cap removal, they used to issue BIO code 1 and then Code 2 for GC production. However, nowadays they work differently. You will get a RFI generated automatically by the QA department that asks for medicals and updated biographic form. IF you have submitted your medicals and your biographic info hasn't changed, write a letter with the RFI on top that you submitted the medicals and updated biographic forms if they need to.

1-2 Months after RFI: Bio Code 3: Once they receive your RFI, you will get a bio code 3 which includes FP check, fp on your gc and your photo.

Approval ~ 1-2 years from ND: If no RFE is requested, GC approval 1-2 months after your bio code 3. If RFE is requested, the direction for them is to let you know by 90 days of RFE..Also depends on the backload they have.

My ND is Jan 17 2006, and my final approval is March 8, 2006. So things are moving fast. My case was sent to Nebraska, but was quickly transferred to Texas (TSC) without my knowledge. It turned out that TSC was acting very quickly on my case. Both my lawyer and I are surprised. Pleasantly so.

Not necessarily "1-2 months after RFI". My BIO mail and RFI mail were sent out to me on the same day.

Guys,

IF you look at my signature you can see, I did not have FP code1 or Code 2the first FP was code 3. I do not what is going on....

And if you look at my sig, you will see I did not have BIO 1 and 2 either. I just had BIO 3. Nothing is wrong with your case.

if they transfer your case to texas you are lucky. If they keep your case at NEBRASKA. just forget about greencard for a while.(i guess they make special greencards at NSC So they can track asylees by sattelite) ;)

What do all the abbreviations mean?

I guess I must've been away on the moon, or something, because I just cannot make sense of all the abbreivations everyone is using here. I think I know that ND means "Notification Date", the date that USCIS sends you a note acknowledging that they have received your I-485. But what does RFI, FP Code 1, FP Code 2, BIO Code 1, BIO Code 2, BIO Code 3, RFE, LUD, mean? Would really appreciate it if someone could explain together with an explanation whether all these codes apply to everyone.

Also, Sinnersroom mentioned that if my case stays in Nebraska, then I can only dream about my GC, but if my case gets transferred to Texas, then I am lucky. Now my next question is how do I get my case transferred to Texas? Is it a luck of the draw? Does it depend on where you are? I am based in Georgia.

Thank you all your most wonderful and informative responses. Please keep them coming!

I felt the same way when I first joined the forum, so let me tell you what they mean:

ND: Notification Date
RFI: Request For Initial evidence (such as medical and G325A)
FP Code 1: Finger print of 10 fingers (this is used for background check for FBI)
FP Code 2: Finger print of one index finger, a picture and signature (this is used for GC production)
BIO Code 1: same as FP Code 1
BIO Code 2: same as FP Code2
BIO Code 3: Code 1 + Code 2 together
RFE: Request for additional Evidence (this can be anything like copy of passport, birth certifcate, etc...)
LUD: Last Updated Date (this is the date you see on your online status. This changes when an IO (immigration Officer) works on your case. Sometimes the date changes without your status changing)

I hope this helps. Good Luck!

PS. All this is posted somewhere on one of the sticky threads, but I thought I'd make your life easier :)
