Hi all,

My TN is expiring on Apr 09, 2008. I am planning to renew by mail. This is the first time I am renewing and can anybody plz let me know how many days ahed I'll have to apply, what papers are needed and how much is the processing fee? Would somebody be kind enough to give me any link where I can get all the information? Thanks in advance.

I'm no expert on the matter, but I just filed my first renewal by mail. My TN expires on March 8, 2008. Your employer is supposed to file for you, so talk to your employer and see if they will do it for you (they usually consult a lawyer). I do not work full time so my employer would not invest the $$$ for the filing fee ($320) or for the lawyer. I did most of the paperwork myself and had my employer approve it and sign it and mail it in.

You will need the same documentation you needed for your original TN (offer of employment letter with new dates starting when your current TN expires, copy of diploma, certifications/licenses, photocopy of passport, including your current I-94 front and back, etc etc). Your employer will need to fill out an I-129 form.

My renewal was sent in about a month ago. According to the USCIS website, as of Dec 14 they had completed renewals up to late-October. So you're looking at a 2-3 month renewal timeframe. I would recommend renewing ASAP. If you apply for renewal before your current TN expires, you receive a 240 day grace period in which you can continue to work until they process your TN.

Like I said, I'm not an expert and this is just my personal experience and can't vouch for the accuracy of this information. I hope it is enough information to get you started until someone more knowledgeable can give you some advice :)

Hi,

My TN was set to expire July 27, 2007. We sent out the I-129 in Mid-May 2007. My TN Mail-in Extension was approved July 31, 2007 (4 days after the expiry).

You could send in your I-129 like a couple days before your TN expiry since you would then be working in the 240 day grace period once your TN expires, but since you are preparing the package now might as well send it in soon. My TN last summer took about 2.5 months to be approved so figure around the same timeframe for yours.

Good Luck,

CJ

I'm looking to renew mine (expire April 30th,2008) by mail also. And I will like to know if I can travel if I send it by mail before my actual TN expire and when on the 240days grace period?
Thanks you,
Melanie

Say you send it now. You can travel and return to US until April 30th with no problem, using the old TN.

If you try to return after April 30, you then need to apply for a new TN at the entry point, since the mail-in is of no value to you at this point.

The grace period is only effective while staying in US.
