How long it takes for Welcome letter ???

How important is the welcome letter after your POE??

What happens if we dont receive it at all. My situation will be different necause i will be changing my address in the next 10 days after i come into the US.

I have already given a different address for the plastic cards. My concern is how important it is receiving the welcome letter.

My experience - if it helps:

POE:Boston - no trouble at all. Very nice officer.
DOE:09/16/03.
Family of 3.

Welcome letter recd (for all): 10/01/03.
Plastic card recd (for all 3): 10/04/03.

I also moved after 09/16/03 but i had requested the officer at POE to change it to my new address in their records - she very promptly did it. Then all Welcome letters and plastic cards arrived at the new address.
