how long I have to maintain the H1

I am working on H1 and have applied I-485 about 8 months ago, I have EAD in hand , At this point I donot have to maintain the H1 since I applied I-485 as derivative, I am going out of country and will come back on H1 cause I am maintaining the H1, after I come back form overseas and enter on H1 for how long I have to maintain the H1, I am thinking that after I come back I will work for a month or two on H1 then take some time off and work some were else on my EAD.

you can work on h1 as long as you want. You can extend h1 too. You can switch to EAD whenever you want. You can keep the EAD totally unused and get a new EAD next year too..
