How long does USCIS usually take for TN Mail In Renewal?

Hey guys,

I sent in my I 129 for a mail in TN renewal back in May for my TN which expires July 26, 2007. They recieved it May 29th and on the USCIS website it says they're currently processing TNs with receipt date of April 15, 2007. How long do they typically take for these? I understand they are relatively busy with all the H1-Bs they are processing.

If it takes them 3 weeks to finish your TN, is that 3 weeks from when they recieve it?

Thank you,

Well I'm sure you can do the math: It's taking about 3 months. Your will be ready about labour Day.

You remain in pending TN status for upto 240 days after this one expires, so there is no worry about status. If you leave US however, you need to get a new TN at the border, as the mail-in is scrapped at that point.

Thank you nelson, your promp replies are always appreciated.

I guess i'm not so concerned with my status so much as I am with my drivers license which expires next week (July 26).

I just called one of the local license centers & one of their drones said all you need to do since you already have a Pennsylvania License established (from my current TN) is pay for the photo card & renew your license and we give you a new 4 year license. Guess they're not too familiar with all the rules requiring INS documentation.

Saves me a trip home. If not I could always re apply at the border, my application for TN is relatively straight forward cut & dry even though it is Sci. Tech category.

Every state is different of course, but one constant is the complete lack of consistency and accuracy when you speak to anyone in the American Bureaucracy.

Given that your previous DL was tied to your TN expiry date, you really have nothing to base your supposition that your purely temporary TN status just doesn't matter anymore, other than the words of a DMV telephlunkie. This would lead me to conclude that el-qaida should simply come to PA for a year (as a student, say) and then get lifetime DL.

I'm pretty sure it won't work that way, even at the DMV.

I would be going to the DMV today and securing my DL, or -- more likley -- finding out that I'll need to renew my TN at the border.

Most people don't wait until their DL is about to expire before renewing, do they?
