how long does it take for EAD now?

Are they still activating the renewed ead the same day they approve the ead application. Last time I lost 21/2 month due to this. Just applied last week for my 2nd renewal. Hopefully, I get complete year at least this time.
 
I hate the system

I have applied for my 4th EAD on 15th Mar, 2006. My current EAD expires on July 10.

We have to apply for EAD just to make sure that we get the receipt date for the application that is atleast 90 days before your current EAD expires. Infact if there is a RFE ( all these days are not counted towards the 90 days)

So basically to be on the more safer side one should apply for renewal EAD in a way to make sure that the receipt date would be atleast 120 days before the currenty EAD expires.

Now if they process and approve the EAD, they will assign only 1 year for the EAD and the 1 year would start on the approval date. So realistically we are not actually getting 1 year of EAD. This SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!

Desiladka -
Whats the story on 485 denial even after responding to the RFE? Can you work legally (on EAD or 7 years+ extension of H1B) while the MTR is in the process?

is the break period between your ead renewal make any cahnges to your status, please respond to this, my ead is about to expire and the renewal is not approved yet
 
I got the EAD card approved effective date after my current EAD expiration which means I did not loose any time on my current EAD. This is as per the new process in USCIS, starting from April 2006.
So irrespective of when you apply for a EAD renewal you will get the approval of EAD effective from the end date of current EAD.

I've applied for EAD on 2nd Feb and nothing yet. You sould apply atleast 90 before your EAD expires so that you could get temp EAD if needed.

Thanks for the information regarding getting the EAD validity starting from the expiry of the current one. This is really helpful for a lot of us since I have switched to EAD and lost time during my previous renewal. This time around I was planing to apply atleast 100 days in advance and ready to loose a month or two of current EAD validty period.

I cannot recollect the exact dates I applied and received the receipt notice and its date; but below are the details you requested.

Current EAD Validity: 06/16/05 - 06/15/06
EAD Renewal Apply Date: Sometime in March; may be 03/13/06
EAD Renewal Receipt Date: About a week from applying
EAD Renewal Approve Date: 04/10/06
New Renewed EAD Validity: 06/16/06 - 06/15/07

And no we did not apply for multiple year EAD renewal; I was not aware of that process, neither my attorney discussed this with me.
