How long does it take for a PR to get a driver's licence?

As a green card holder, when you go to the DMV and take and pass the tests and present all the correct documents, how long does it take till you have your licence? The Florida guide says that permanent residents will be issued a "paper driving permit" for 30 days until information are verified and an actual licence is given. Can anyone shed some light on this?

Every state is different when it comes to issuing licenses. But you specifically mentioned Florida, so I can confirm that they take 21-30 days after issuing the paper permit to issue the driver's license. You'll need to carry other identification when you drive with the permit.
