How Long do Priority Dates remain current?

My PD is 12/18/00
AOS application sent to INS on 11/23/01. My attorney said that my PD would be current through November. What happens if INS does not get my AOS application by the end of this month? Does it mean more delays?

Till when can I file for 485

The current visa bulletin says that the dates are current for December. Does that mean that I can file for 485 till the end of december?
