how long can it be between approval and stamping?

Hi Guys,

My wife I-485 just got approved, but she is out of U.S.A now and she plans to be back at January, my question is: it it ok to wait for around 3 months before stamping? also is it ok for her to come back with AP with her I-485 approved?

The stamping is for travel purposes only. I know few people who never got stamping and directly got the Green cards through mail. If there is an urgency for you to travel and lets say you dont have a visa or parole to re-enter then you should get the stamping which you can use for re-entry.

About your wife re-entry, I am not sure if she use her H4(if she has one) since 140 and 485 got approved. I think she is better off using her parole.

Yes, she can come back on AP. But make sure you don't cut it close.

Avvi_rama, you mean it's not necessary to do passport stamping and we can still get green card?

Yes. It is just a temporary stamp before you receive the plastic Green Card. check this link which also says it is a temporary stamp.

Sometimes the plastic card can take time to reach you(1-3 months), so in that case if you have an urgency to travel out of country(and if you dont have AP ), this temp stamp on your passport will help you enter inside the country.
