Me and my wife have been married for 4 years and I recently sent in an application for her to become a citizen.I expected to hear back at least 6 months but they sent a notice for a finger print thye next month and now her interview is coming in janurary. The issue is she still is taking esl classes(I dont think she's really ready yet).
My questions are:
1)How long can I really extend her interview?
2)If I cannot extend to long and she does fail, then how many tries does she get?
3)If the limit is 2 or 3 and she fails them all, then do I need to reapply when she's ready and pay another $675 for the application?
4) If I withdraw her application,is the $675 refunded back?
5)Any suggestions on what to do?
Thanks in advance.

If she fails, she will be retested within 60-90 days. They wont refund your 675 no matter what.

Also if you want to reschedule your interview, its possible! Send it to the DO that sent you the Interview request.

I actually did send a letter requesting to postpone interview for at least 5 months. But today I recieved a letter saying her interview is next month. So they only delayed it for only 1 month. Why do you think they didn't do the 5 months I requested? Should I go ahead and send another reply letter asking for a 5 month postponement ?

Well 5 months is a long time so that's why they didn't postpone for that long. See if your wife can pass the test. If she doesn't she will have another chance.

They will ignore specific time frames that you request for postponement. All you can do is request a reschedule, then they will reschedule the interview to suit their convenience, not yours. That could mean anywhere from 3 weeks to more than 6 months depending on what they feel like.

You can go ahead and reschedule again. But I think they will only grant up to 3 reschedule requests.

Bygones be bygones, the first thing you should have done is to delay FP as long as possible.

You can ask for re-schedule again. OR the next thing you can do (with some risk) is to skip interview. If you request a re-schedule now, they will push out by another month, but not more. If you skip interview OR ask for re-schedule just before the interview date, it is likely you gain a few more weeks.

I am not sure what the consequences are of skipping interview, and maybe others can enlighten from their experience...

But given that you were planning for an interview in 6 months, and they give you a second chance on English ... so her second interview might anyway be close to your original target, I would say give it a chance.

BTW, the english test is not hard if someone has lived in US and is actively conversing in office / school / supermarket. There is only a small bit of reading (one sentence) and a small bit of writing (one sentence).

From what I understand your wife will only need to know english enough to read one sentence and write one sentence (and all those words are in the sutdy guide). The IO will repeat the sentence as long as your wife wants so that she can write it. She can request that someone be present during the interview to answer all the other questions that will be asked.
The reason I know this is because right before my interview the lady had the same problem. She was not fluent in English so the interviewer told her that he is rescheduling the interview and asked her to bring her husband to translate (This whole conversation took place in front of me). Try taking an infopath and ask someone at the DO if this is allowed.

12 weeks for a Transportation Letter? Or are you applying for an SB-1 visa? If you've been outside the US long enough to need an SB-1 visa, it's practically guaranteed they will deny your citizenship, unless you met one of the exceptions like being in the US military. What document did you apply for?

They will not set a date to suit you; they will set a new date to suit themselves, which will be anywhere from a few weeks to several months later.
