How long before permanent move to US without losing GC ?

Hi all.
I went to the USA in June to get my green card, and received it in July. I am now back in my home country, and I have a contract to honor which will last a few more months, and I also have to take care of many things like selling my house, etc.
So, my question is, how long is it safe to wait before moving permanently to the US, without risking to lose my GC ?
Any advice or feedback on this issue will be greatly appreciated.

Keeping it less than 6 months will be ideal, you can easily do this at least twice before you will notice additional scrutiny at the POE.
The other option for you is to get a RP so you can stay longer than a year outside US, but you have to be in US to app,y for a RP.

Hi.
Thanks for your reply.
My GC is dated mid-June 2010. I still have many things to take care of here in my home country before I can move to the US. If I wait until say March or April 2011, will I still be ok ? Or is it too late ?

Hi,

You are risking losing your green card if you stay outside of the U.S for over six months without a permission before leaving.

Go to this site of the USCIS for more info. on how to maintain your green card after permanent residence has been granted

Don't delay your stay, please.

Did you request a re-entry permit for staying out of the country up to 1 yr?

If not, it is up to the custom employee to grant you in the country or not. You might get a warning for next time, but it will be noted in their computer.
