The lawyer I signed up with is really not cooperative on my case.
Every time, after I submit documents to him, it takes several weeks
for him to mail out, always the explanation is as of he is too busy.

For example, my RFE was in his hands for almost one week and I am
still not sure the RFE was mailed out or not. ( he only has a answering
machine and fax no. for me)

Are all lawyers work in the same way ? How I can change the lawyer
to a new one ?

Let me share you somthing. not all attorney are this type, seems you got sour grape.

First, my personal opinion do not change attorney on this stage. this is last document I belive you are sending for GC. if you change then it would take more time. and if any issue come u would be confused. ....... Question is how to deal with lazy attorney....... hey this is the country where $$ works more fast than anything. hehehe :D everything is for sell. what would you like to buy?

One of my friend have same issue with his non-coperative attorney, he asked me to help him out. I asked him it would cost him few $$$ ....... after some hesitate he agreed to feed the greed ......... he followed and he is happy now...... he shared how he is welcomed by attorneys office and even without appoitment. :D ..

Hey I am not very expert but here I like to share, Long story short.
few quick suggestions. if you or ppl whoever like.
1. Never visit attorney office empty hands. (take some small reasonable gift/s with you)
2. talk with staff . say HI/Hello warmly. keep them happy, give some good gifts/$$.
3. Last effort, talk very openly , saying like this with smile on face....
" I know this is enconvience for you to and you will do some extra HARDWORK for me and I am / I would be happy to pay you some of your extra effort you will made for me. I like to YOU (EXPRESESS ON YOU) to send this document before end of this weekend. and (give take you walet out show them $$ look on his face.).......
(note: never say "Please" to attorny say, "I LIKE YOU to do in this way". or say I appreciate if YOu do in this way, don't forget to show smile face+$$)

I believe you would handle rest of all.

Be nice with ppl. keep remember them (attorney and staff). send them somthing card/gifts on occasions. always talk saying hi hello... I hope you are smart person...

Second Option if you are not agree with about advise. find new one, he/she willl file G-28 on your behalf. and will inform to INS.
(risk what is guarantee this one is good haaa'n :D ). you are spending money anyway... ;) so be smart.

Smile. :D

Good LUck

It's simple

Make sure you can end relationship with the old one (so you do not have to pay more).

Find a new lawyer. The new one will file a notice with USCIS that tells USCIS he is your new representation. The new one will also request to move all your documents from the old lawyer to his office.

BTW - if you are in South East, I recommend Romy Kapoor from Atlanta. He is my lawyer and I am extremely happy with his service (I am not related in any other way).

Re: Poj

P.O.J.,

He can change the lawyer - it should not hurt. I had to because my company was changin lawyers and it seems to be fine -- I got EADs and APs after that no problems.

As to how to treat lawyers, if your lawyer is a pro, he/she will not care about gifts and tone of voice. It is a simple business: money exchanged for advice.

Instead being extra friendly, I would recommend:
- be prepared and know what you want before you call,
- be brief,
- trust them to call you back (if they are pro, they will),
- be ready to send/receive fax while on the call (know your fax number),
- be ready to access email and web while on the call,
- know your address, DOBs, passport nos, your A#, SRC#, whatanot, etc.
- know their fax, email, address, etc.
- learn to spell your name (or anything) in army key or the like: Alfa Bravo Delta Echo...,
- always call first before you decide to show up.
This will help you solve the problem on the spot in a few minutes.

And, if this does not work, change the attorney. Once again, people like Romy Kapoor from Atlanta are a good example of fine lawyers.

Thanks,

EUcitizen,

Funny that you mentioned Romy Kapoor. My attorney is his brother, I beleive, Brij Kapoor. I wouldn't recommend him to anybody. I had some problems with him and wanted to switch lawyers. But decided not to do it this late in the game (right before filing the I-485).

Plus, when he found out that I wanted to drop him, he demanded that I paid him the rest of the money for filing the I-485 anyway and then go with another attorney. So, I didn't have much choice, did I?

I checked around Atlanta at the time and was surprised to find out the prices for just filing the I-485. The attorneys I would go with are Latour & Lleras, they have their own website www.usvisanews.com They were very helpful and supportive, plus had very reasonable prices.

Anyway, consider all pros and cons before changing lawyer at this stage.
Good luck.

Re: Mike

If they are related, they for sure must be different -- Romy is really good lawyer. I would recommend him to anyone. As far as $$$, he was quite cheap back when I started, not sure now.

Good luck!

Hi Pros:

I recently got laid off (and lost sponsorthip from company) and received RFE for my wife and son. Do I have to find another lawyer to return RFE or I can do it by myself?

Thanks for answering !
