How frequently is the USCIS online case information updated?

Does anybody know if it gets updated real time during the day or only happens once a day?

ie has anybody checked their case status at 1pm and then noticed it changed at 4pm?

Just interested to know what others have seen.

Excellent question. That would save us from checking the status a few times a day.
 
I found this in the FAQ section of USCIS:

How often is the case status information on this site updated?
The case status information on this site is updated regularly throughout the business day. If any action is taken regarding your case, the change will be reflected on this site within a few minutes of the action-taking place.

In my case, the online system only showed two events:

01/23: the day the check was cashed.
04/12: the day the interview letter was generated.

Other than gauging if and when the IL arrives, I find the online system quite useless for N-400 applications.

How did you find out that FBI got back to USCIS on the same day after fingerprinting? I have received interview letter but my wife has not - we both went to the fingerprinting on the same day.
