how easy to get the B2 visa extended?

My mom comes and goes to US often and will stay here 3-4 months max. Now, my first baby girl just born and we are trying to get her to stay here for 10-12 months for just helping us out (with one extension we hope).

Does anyone use this reason for extended the stay? How easy to get this extended?

Since she will be using Canada to enter to US. If she cannot get extended, we are trying to send her back to Toronto and then re-enter to US. How much time we need to stay at Toronto in order to be safe to get the max allowable stay in US?
