how early can u apply for EAD extension

Hello,
Could anyone please tell me as to how early u can apply
for an EAD Extension ?
My lawyer says its 3 months. And I thought its 6 months ?

Any ptrs to uscis/any website where I can get this information
will be really helpful.

I applied for the EAD extension 6 months before it expires. My wife's got approved. I've got an RFE saying my photos are not correct. I have just sent the photos again.
 
i applied 4 months ahead and got one. applied 6 months ahead for my wife. got an rfe asking why we applied so early. sent the reply that one of the ins sites asks us to apply 6 months ahead for EAD renewal. online status for my wifes EAD changed to approved yesterday.
 
Six months it is

My 2nd EAD expires in July '04, and my lawyer suggested to file for a 3rd one in the next couple of weeks, because of increasing processing times. There was a 120 days rule I believe, but since there is a 4 four months backlog right now, they might not enforce it.
 
Much discussed, search the forums for more answers but usually 4 months is a good bet!

P.S it is not extension, it is renewal.
