How does a L1 Spouse apply for work permit?

Hello there,
I was in the same situation. Because the law is new, many service centers did not have the exact details on how to proceed with the L2 spousal Visa. I had to go down to my local INS office here in Portland and fill out an I-765. You are supposed to receive your response within 90 days. You are also required to fill out 2 signiture cards. If for any reason that you do not receive your pernmanent EAD in the mail by the 90th day, then you can go down to the local INS office and ask for a temp. one until you have received the real one.

Yes, you can obtain your signiture cards at your local INS office. You get the cards along with the I-765 form. If you don't get two signiture cards, than I would suggest asking for them.

I got L2EAD from Nebraska Service Center and followinf information would be useful to you all.
Download I-765 from www.ins.usdoj.gov(http://www.ins.usdoj.gov/graphics/formsfee/forms/files/i-765.pdf).
Q-12,Q-13 - from your I-94 card (for example, Q12 -"12/31/2001", Q13 - "Sea Tac airport, Seattle)")
Q-14,Q-15 - "spouse of L1 non-immigrant"
Q-16 - " ( a ) ( 18 ) ( )"
- take correct photos and cut them in according with INS instructions (1.5' x 1.5')
- 120$ fee - personal check preffered (you can check when it'll be cleared)
- copies of I-94 both sides for L1 and L2
- copies of passport first and last pages pages for L1 and L2 (Visa pages also))
- copy of L1 petition approval ( or extension of stay for both L1 And L2 in case visa is expired)
- make sure that correct PO box in INS address
- sent all package using certified or express mail (you can track package and will got delivery notification)

Signature cards separate from the I-765 application will no longer be required. The INS will scan the signature on Form I-765 in order to create the signature on the EAD. It is important, therefore, that signatures be legible and in black ink.
