How do you know whats happening after FP

My family and I were fingerprinted on November 7. Had EAD approved and AP.
What is the next step and how can I check our status online?
I know of the USCIS online check, but all it says "your I-485 was received and is pending at TSC". Nothing else on name check status or anything else. I read people posting stuff like LUD. What is that???
I appreciate any explanation I can get from the very smart people on this forum.

There is really no means to track on what happens after FP and during namecheck etc. Thats truely the beauty of this system *wink*. If there was one straightforward method then we would not be discussing this at this forum.

Anyways. LUD means Last Update Date. Open a profile on USCIS website to track your case online and add your tracking receipt numbers into that profile. Then there will be a column that says Last Update Date, which means that the application file was last opened on that date, either for an update or for an inquiry etc. This is one means to know if the file is being 'touched' by someone or if its just sitting in a repository somewhere.

Thanks for the info. I do have 1 question . To open a profile, do I have to register. When I go to the Case Status Online on the left hand there are different options, 1 is register and 1 is login.
On the same page you can also check your status without registering or logging in, just by entering the src#.
I do not want to sound stupid but what do You mean by"

Any help is as always greatly appreciated.

Thanks again for your input. I did register and the last updated date was 12/2/07 (Sunday). Great. At least somebody is looking at my stuff. Not sure how much, but I am not forgotten (seems like at least).
 
Hi guys,

After my FP there is no LUD for my application. Last week i also called NSC, the lady told me if i want to know about my case where its stands i have to take infopass appointment it seems.

how do you guys know like your name check is cleared or pending?

Infopass person may tell you.
Another option: Write to your senator or congressman to look into the status of your case. They can tell you if NC is holding up your case.
