how do i chek the status?

hello everyone..
i have mailed my N-400 on the 13th of march..how do i chek the status? shall i wait for the receipt no via mail? how soon will i receive it?
pls help...thank you..

For now, just wait. If you sent it certified mail with return receipt, the receipt should show up in a week or so. If you are really nervous, you can see if you check clears. Somewhere in a month (plus/minus a week or so) you'll get a "Notice of Action" that is effectively a receipt. A week to a month after that, a fingerprint notice.

Eventually, your status should (most of the time) show up on the USCIS "case status" site (https://egov.immigration.gov/cris/jsps/index.jsp).

My advice, don't worry about anything - just keep checking your (physical) mailbox. If you don't get anything in 2 months, then worry.

BTW: your status will likely disappear some time after your fingerprints are taken - don't worry, that's a good sign.

I recommend that you have somebody check your mailbox if you plan on being out of town at all. Fingerprint appointment letters come pretty quickly for just about everybody. You can do a walk-in for FP if you miss it but why go thru' the hassle?

Interview after Name Check is another matter. The Name Check can take anywhere from weeks (unlikely), months (most probable), to years (unlikely). Then you get an Interview appointment letter that you do NOT want to miss.

If you want clarification on any of this, the best place to look is the Naturalization Guide (USCIS) and this forum by looking at the Sticky threads and also doing a search on key words.
