hi, currently i'm in h4.. we've also applied for green card and lc is in process..but i want to work now.. what should i do for that.. i prefer to work from home.. should i get an employer to file h1 for me or is there any clause in which i can get permission or so.. pls. help me in this..
All depends on how you define work and how far-sighted are your objectives.
The legal facts first. On H4 you cannot do any remunerative work for any individual or company. So legally working for cash or kind is ruled out. So getting a H1 sponsor is one of the ways to work and get paid for the work.
From your post, I guess you considered only that as work. So if your objective is only to make as much or more salary/hrly wages as your spouse does then that is more or less the option.
The other option I would have suggested prior to 2000 would be learn about investing in stocks. That way, you can 'work' from home and invest (through any of the online brokers) and make as much or more money than your spouse. But now stocks are out of fashion. Maybe you can try real-estates.
But, if that is not the case, if you are willing to be creative and expand your horizons then there are lots of avenues to 'work'. If you are ineterested in furthering your skills in your field, you can always volunteer. There are lots of people (volunteering as pharmacists, interns in various departments in companies) who do that.
Or other options are writing articles, stories, books, pursue any such artistic hobby (which is, believe me, a lot of work).
Also, since you said your GC processing is on, I guess your long term objectives are to settle down in US (or at least live here for a considerable duration). If so, then this is a golden opportunity for you to mix with people from various cultures and ethnicity and participate in the community building. So, for example, volunteering at schools, day-care centers, elders' homes, etc. will give you a much better perspective and insight into the life of these people, and for them to know you, so that slowly you mesh with the society. Believe me, you will never get this opportunity again. And also, there are any number of examples of people who were very well rewarded for these social activities (they went on to become political bigwigs like mayors, members of legislatures, etc.)
So like I said, it all depends on what you consider as work and how far can you set your sights.
