`Hi Friend:

At the end I am in the US ( I just arrive one week ago), in the port of entry I chenage my adress with the inmmigartion officer (as many of you recommended me, and I am living in AZ intestead of MD, , I called my friends there and advice them that I am here right now, just in case my GC arrived there, in this town in AZ there a Social Security office, but I have some question that I have for you, I hope you can help me.

1.- Should I go to the Social Security Office? or should I wait the GC arrive seem that it will take a long time.
2.- What should I tell them, if I go without the GC even I know the seal that is in my passport is equal to the GC for a year.
3.- Should I bring some paper or document or just with my passport is enough I don`t have more document that my passport I left everything in the POE.

I`ll apreciate you help once again.

Cheers, Verca 2007

Go as soon as possible to the Social Security Office. You are fine with you temp. GC in your passport.

not as soon as possible. Wait for at least a week since your arrival. USCIS is pretty slow about passing the information about you to SSA, and SSA will not be able to verify that you are a resident in this case.

well, this topic will be read by others, who haven't even arrived in the US. Most of them will go to SSA "as soon as possible" only to discover they went there in vain.

I thougt they sending the SSN automaticly to your adress like the GC, without going to SSA.

Only if you do consular processing and check the relevant box on DS-230 Part II and only if you are 18 years or older. My wife and I didn't check it, since we already had been living in the US and had a SSN. I did check it for my son, but when we were issued the visas we also received an information sheet from the embassy stating that a visit to the social security office would still be required for those below 18.

On the way back from the airport, on the day we were admitted, we stopped by the social security office to apply for a SSN for my son and to have my wife's and my SSN records updated to reflect that we were now permanent residents. The clerk initially said that we should have waited for 10 days to allow the system to be updated, but then said she would try it anyway. To her surprise, all our alien registration numbers were validated. We received all three SSN cards in the mail 9 days later.

SSA and USCIS are getting a lot better at automatically sending SSNs, however, that doesn't work every time yet...

Hi Friend :

Today I went to the SS office (I arrived to US on 14 October) I was in the system and the Madame how was ther completed all the subscrption, she was thinking that I wasn`t but I was.

And I don`t have the GC yet just with my passport and the seal that the inmmigration officer put on my passport in the POE..

Best Regards all of you and I will keep informed if I have any questions.
