Has anyone had an expericne with h1 restamping at Mumbai when they were not resident of Mumbai Embassy district.

I have an apptmt in Mumbai for May 12th for an H-1 staming and I am WORKING in USA and the address in the passport is in KERALA (Chennai consulate). Would that be a problem? Has anyone got the stamping done in Mumbai.

Thanks for the reply BUT SEE THIS RESPONSE from MUMBAI consulate

If you are working in USA you can go for stamping anywhere in India, it should not be a problem.

"Returning workers can apply in any of the four U.S. consulates in
India."
It is advisable to apply in your own district.
That is the last place in India where you resided for at least 6 months
before going to the U.S.
It may be harder to qualify for the visa if you are not applying in your
own district.
The visa officers at the U. S. Embassy or Consulate at an applicant's
designated consulate are generally more familiar with his or her
circumstances and documents than the officers somewhere else would be.
You should also be aware that even if this post allows you to apply, it
is still possible that the interviewing officer will refuse to
adjudicate your case and will refer you to your own district anyway.
Application fees in this case will NOT be refunded.
Please visit the VFS website for available interview dates.

Basically, they are saying that you can apply for H1 stamping anywhere in India. If you have appointment for Mumbai I would advice you to go for it, but if you do not have appointment you can try to take appointment at nearest consulate.
There are always risks wherever you go for stamping, people are getting stamped in canada and Mexico, and there are people who are stuck with 221gs in the consulate closest to their district. Visa stamping is just a gamble which you are forced to play, even if you don't like it. Just go for it with all documents and preparation.

I would add that it may be sometimes easier to do this in canada; however, if you are visiting India in any event, it may be better to do this there.

now, Mumbai consulate+VFS works slightly differently than the other embassies in India. you need to submit all the docs 5 business days before your appointment date; and they are showing dates availability in the last week of April. One can not make these dates unless the condition of having to deposit allthe docs 5 business days before the appointment date.

Would Degree from INDIA make a difference?

I have my engineering degree from Kerala, would that make any difference for stamping in Mumbai?

I have been working in USA from NOVEMBER 2001. All the documents are 100% ok and no layoff/without pay.

Hi,

I am in a somewhat similar situation. I got married in Nov. My spouse is currently studying at Ahmedabad and is a localite of Ahmedabad. I am from mumbai and currently working here. My H1B is filed and am supposed to schedule an interview at the consulate. I am planning to schedule an H4 appointment for my spouse too. Cant we go together for an interview at the mumbai consulate? Should my spouse go to the nearest consulate and not mumbai??

Mumabi is the nearest consulate for your spouse, I think.
You can go for H1/H4 together.
