Hi.

I stumbled upon this site trying to locate information about the DV lottery.

Now I'm VERY MUCH a DV rookie.

I've been reading up on this site but I seem to come up with more questions than answers, so I'm hoping someone will help me out so this doesn't turn into a disappointing episode of LOST. (;

1. are my chances bigger of winning by applying on opening day than closer to november?

2. if i ever actually win, it seems it isn't a guarantee that i'll receive a visa? a lot of people keep talking about low & high numbers?

3. additionally i read something about the first 50,000 to qualify, so i should check may 1st because it's a competition against everyone else who won?

4. i read that no more than 7 percent will be picked from one country, but does that mean that someone will be picked from ALL participating countries & is there a minimum on that percentage? i'm from denmark myself & being from such a small country, clearly i don't stand a chance against most countries.

5. i know that they state that it's random selection but does anyone know if they look at your educational level? aka the higher educated you are, the better your chances are?

would REALLY appreciate someone clearing it up for me!

1. It's a random selection so it doesn't matter which day you enter.

2. No guarantee because of (a) case number and (b) you still have to qualify (education etc.)

3. The 50000 doesn't get determined when you check your entry, but the first 50000 applicants (including families) who get interviewed successfully. The order of interviews goes by your randomly assigned case number. But you should check early and send in your forms if selected to ensure no delays with your interview.

4. There's no minimum, but historically people seem to get picked from all except sometimes really tiny countries (think like Comoros). In fact it seems statistically you're more likely to get chosen if from a small country but maybe someone else can talk about that. As Denmark you will be part of European region obviously and there are also regional quotas in selection that come into play.

5. No. As long as you have the minimum your chances are the same for selection/interview - the education levels are not checked beforehand. People have been selected even though they don't meet the minimum for example - this only gets validated at the interview. A higher qualification will help easier prove that you won't become a public charge and make the qualification at interview a bit easier though.

That's the thing u only win at the end if u get the GC otherwose u not a winner ur a selectee.
