I am a Colombian citizen by birth, I just got my American citizen.
I am elegible for the Italian citizenship by blood (jus sanguinis).

Would I loose my American citizenship if I apply for the Italian citizen after 365 days?

-When an American citizen needs to renew his/her passport, the form asks if he/she have acquired another citizenship. WHY DO THEY ASK THAT??? ITS SCARY.
-What about the oath of allegiance? Italian allegiance? will USA have a problem with it?

please help. I am aware that they say something like "it is assumed the person obtaining a new citizenship, wants to keep the USA citizenship unless they renounce it" or something like that.
My question is "WHAT THE LAW SAYS? AND HOW CAN I GET PROTECTED/WHAT PROTECTION DO I HAVE IN CASE THEY WANT TO TAKE MY CITIZENSHIP ONCE I APPLY FOR A PASSPORT RENEWAL????

Same subject is discussed in this thread.

It appears to me that the US laws are not clear on this subject. Like most of other INAs, so much is depend on the "intent". So, just to ratify my intent to not to renounce the US citizenship, I would inform the state department before applying for citizenship of another country. Although this may not required by law, it will cover your bases.
