I have seen many posts here about job changes to different companies after green card approval. My case is different as I changed job title in same company.

My green card application was based on product design engineer position and I was working on this position when my GC was approved. Many product quality issues occured around that time and I was familiar with our products, so the company promoted me to product quality manager position to put the fires down.

As you can see, I changed job title within same company 3 months after green card approval. I stayed with this company for another 14 months before I left for my current employer (~3.5 years).

I intended to work for the sponsering company as design engineer. They put me on new position as situation changed. The immigration lawyer told me it was ok as I already became permanent resident.

I just reached 5-year mark. I would like to double check the rule before applying for citizen. Any thoughts? Should I wait for 1.5 more years so that this history won't show on N400 form as it only requires 5 year working history.

Thank you very much!!!

I changed jobs 3 months before I got my greencard and have worked for two other companies since getting my greencard. Obviously work history details go on your citizen application but I just became a Citizen two weeks ago and USCIS did not have a single queston about my work history.

The whole citizenship process was a piece of cake; much easier and less stressful then the GC process.

Bottom line, your fine.

Don't worry about it. You stayed with the same employer for over a year, which clearly shows your intention to work for the employer even if it wasn't in exactly the same position. Employment based green cards are granted primarily for the benefit of the employer, not the employee, and USCIS is not going to hold it against you that the employer wanted to move/promote you to a different position.
