HELP Please! EAD/AP expiration issue

Hi,

Here is my situation ... would Greatly appreciate your suggestions!

I applied for my I-485 in Dec '01.
I received my EAD and AP in January 02 valid till Jan '03

My H-1B expired on Sept 22nd, 2002.
I have started to apply for an extension on the EAD/AP.

I, most likely, will not receive the extension before the current documents expire.

Am I in serious trouble? Will I be out of status?

I have heard that 6 months after applying for I-485, one can change employers. But since I will not have valid documents after Jan '03, can I still do that? (I don't really want to change employers right now, just worried incase I get laid off or something).

I have no idea what my options are.

765 and 131 are not complicated forms. Send the applications now. You cannot work for any employer after Jan 03 until your new EAD is approved.
However you wont be out of status (since 485 protects your status). Only the employment authorization will not be valid.
Only option you have is to blame yourself for lethargy.

EAD Renew

Renew EAD is very simple. Do it now. It is not too late.
Documents:
1) Two Immigration photos.
2) I-765 Application. You can download it from http://www.immigration.com/frame/formsfeechart.html
3). Copy of your Driver's License
4) Copy of Old EAD card
5) a check of $120.

That's it.
