HELP : Passport renewal during 485

I am a June \'01 filer waiting for my 485 approval (hopefully in a month). My passport is due for renewal by August. Anybody is/was in the same situation? I know it is no big deal, but should I get my renewal now, or wait until the approval and stamping?

My old passport expires on 07/21/02

... i got it renewed in September, after applying for my 485 on 06/05/01. It\'s best to get the passport renewed before you get ur approval and go for your stamping cos\' u should get the red stamp on the new passport.

Also, if the passport is not valid for at least 6 months, they may not stamp (not sure about this, but better to be safe).
 
renewing passport

My I-485 is also currently under process. My passport was valid till May 25 2002. I went ahead and renewed my passport, but did not consult any one.
 
Passport renewal potential problems

Guys,

Just want to mention something. This happened to a friend of mine who is a Canadian citizen. He had applied for his I-485 and the time it took for the I-485 application to be assigned to an officer, his passport pages happened to get finished. I suppose he travelled quite a bit on the job. So he applied for a new passport and the Canadian authorities cancelled his old passport, usual process.
However when his I-485 application was assigned to an officer, the officer queried the Canadian authorities about his passport.
Now this was of course was the same passport number that was his old passport, because he had submitted that number and details with his I-485 application, like any other I-485 application. The Canadian authorities response was that no passport number like that exits (because it was cancelled). The officer obviously created a RFE for the passport details and this set his I-485 application back in the pile and till today his case is still pending.

This of course could also be an isolated incident, but I just wanted you\'ll to be aware of this potential hazard.

This makes sense, and that is why I posted this to the board. I doubt if they check with each country\'s authorities on the validity of the passport though. But when you get your passport renewed, you get a new number and the old one becomes void. I checked with my attorney and she said this is fine. I am still not convinced either to get it renewed now or wait for a few more days.. now that June approvals seem to be trickling in...

Hi Bob..., As said by palluji user, I too had read somewhere that Your passport need to be valid atleast for 6 months at the time of GC stamping .. Good Luck
