I am on my last week of my optional practical training and the lawyer just sent out the paperwork last friday. He reports that he has applied for an "extension" and for the H1-B visa, thus allowing me to continue my work after my OPT expires next monday.
1. Is there such a thing as an extension after OPT?
2. What are my options? can I work after July 4th? He said that since he has filed the application, I can continue my work. Is he pulling my chain or is it true?
3. Is there an immigration phone number I can call to check on the status or ask questions regarding how I can continue to work after OPT has expired and before the H1B becomes effective?
Thanks for any help! I'm in desperate need since I don't think I can trust the lawyer (since he was hired by the company).
