Today NVC AVM said my case was created on Aug 13 2004 and it starts with BMB - Which I believe is bombay but my I-140 has the consulate requested as Chennai as I was born and did all my studies in Tamil Nadu.

CP Gurus,

Is the consulate assigned on your permanent address in India ?

Will it be possible to request a change?

Is Bombay Consulate better than Chennai?

I would really appreciate your replies.

Thanks...

CP Gurus,

Is the consulate assigned on your permanent address in India ?

{Though you have not stated here, there could be some element in
your case which prompted the NVC to assign BMB for you.

If you cannot think of anything, there is this very slim possibility of
this kind of assignement due to case load at Chennai}

Will it be possible to request a change?

{You need to research the forum or look for comments from people
who have been in this situation}

Is Bombay Consulate better than Chennai?

{I would think, all the consulates in India are more or less the same,
except for the possibility of personal pick up of the Visa packets at
Bombay.

I am sure your chances for the VISA issue do not change because of
this shift}

I would really appreciate your replies.

Thanks...

Thanks Raju for your immediate response.

My permanent home address in all my documents is the same, which is Tamil Nadu address, I wonder what the reason could be.

Thanks...

{Then,it would be better if your lawyer checks with NVC if there is any valid reason for that else it happens some times they assign wrong consulate for which lawyer has to follow up with proof with NVC to change the consulate. You can check some where in this forum that some people got wrong consulate assigned to them and they got it changed }

Thanks...

Gurus,

When I checked NVC - AVM it gave me a case# starting with MDR. I am not sure what was the issue earlier.

Thanks to all for their replies.

pratyx,

From the AVM talk to the operator, they can give you the fax number.

NVC Phone#: 603-334-0700

Thanks

thanks kovaiGC,

i have tried getting an operator several times during business hours but to no avail:( i thought maybe someone on the forum has got the fax number and cud share:)

Hi Praytx,

Try calling them in the morning when they start. I got hold of them couple of times calling around 8:00 am EST.

Good Luck..

i finally did get thru...tks for the tip tho...btw, their fax number is 603-334-0791 in case someone needs it.

kovaiGC,

any luck with your consulate re-assignment? I have an update on my case. I called NVC this week to get an update on my request status. The operator told me they had never recd the fax or any request to review my case for consulate misassignment. :(

when i told her that as a follow-up to my fax, I had called NVC in late september and confirmed with the operator back then that they had recd the request and are reviewing it and it may take upto 6 weeks. then she changed her story that based on our current conversation she will put in a request now and check with them in abt 2 weeks. essentially i git jacked for 6 weeks
:(

and there is no telling if these next 2 weeks will be fruitful...given the screw-ups with my case so far...i have already lost abt 8 weeks...not counting the countless delays in LC approval , etc. and all this because of their inefficiencies. i know there r probably ppl out there who feel have been dealt a much harsher hand than mine...but i just needed to vent:)

anyway, wanted to know how urs and/or anyone else's case was progressing for consulate misassignment?

also, need some help from seniors...how critical is it that we get the consulate assignment resolved b4 we send P3 in? or can it be done after that? I asked the operator the same Q and she was of the opinion that it does not matter. but given the sequential process, once we get to P4 stage, the NVC needs to know which consulate to send the case to, so it wud matter by then...right? that was beyond the operator I was speaking to...:(

Pratyx,

In my case they assigned it incorrectly and automatically corrected after sometime as I have given in one of the posts above (the code changed from BMB to MDR). I did send anything.

Thanks..
