First of all, my COP is not China.
I am planning a trip to China but I don't know if they issue visas on RTDs. Did anybody with RTD got a visa to China? In what state?
Please respond.

P.S I am green card holder:)

They did issued me one in my RTD with my asylee status this Summer 2007. Consulate of PRC in Los Angeles, with no questions, no problems.
I went with my school in a summer study abroad.

Well, I conatacted visa service company about getting a Chinese visa on RTD and that was their response:

Sorry, Chinese Consulate will not issue visa on Refugee Travel Documents.

It's easy getting a visa on RTD or RP from any Chinese consulate. Never had a problem.

Did you go to the embassy yourself? Or did you use visa services? When was the last time you received chinese visa and where?
I live pretty far from all Chinese consulates (Colorado) and I have to use mail-in visa services.

You need to go to your nearest Chinese Consular office.
Less than 5 months ago I got a Chinese Visa valid for 60 days in my RTD when I was still an asylee.
Go in person...

I did it through a visa service in Houston early this year. They did stamp the visa in my RTD without any problem.

Did you make clear that you are NOT a Chinese citizen?

Did you make clear that you are NOT a Chinese citizen?

Yes I did.
I actually wrote them back yesterday stating that they are wrong and don't know anything. That is their response:

Thank you for your reply. Consulate will take normal US Travel Document ( Re-entry permit) for Chinese visa, but NOT Refugee Travel Documents. If you want to try, you can always go to the consulate to apply in person. Sorry, we can't help you unless you have a valid passport.

I live pretty far from all Chinese consulates (Colorado) and I have to use mail-in visa services.

I went to the Chinese consulate myself here in San Francisco. They did not even look at the other papers that I prepared, just green card and RTD. That was back in January this year.

If you live far away from the Chinese Consulate try this link http://www.china-embassy.org/eng/hzqz/t84229.htm see what consulate serves your home state and after you call them for a simple check , mail in your application along with your RTD . The consulate in NYC can be intimidating , it looks like a fortress so if you don't wanna deal with the consulate directly try a different visa agency

p.s. after reading here Chinese have no problems issuing you a visa on your RTD as long as you have a Green Card
Good luck

All of you who got Chinese visa in RTD: Did you pay visa application fee for U.S citizens (130$) or fee for other countries (much lower)?

I paid the fee for non-US Citizens. We are not US Citizens yet so the rule applies regardless of the country issuing the travel document.

Phone No.

Here is the number for the Consulate in NYC: 212-868-2074. Call them and get the answer. They shouldn't make any fuss over it.

Good Luck!
