Hi,

I am scheduled for N400 interview while my I751 is still pending (which should be fine). Problem is that I was informed by my friends that I751 is processed at a different center (called service center) while N400 is processed at local office. So I have the following questions to understand the process:

If possible, please provide answers to all questions one by one (in-line). I really need ALL the answers and I want to understand how is this handled.

1- Is this true? N400 is processed at a different office than N400?
2- Where is the local office usually located and where is the service center located? Should both be in my city?
3- What is the difference between the 2 offices and what does each office handle?
3- Won't my N400 eventually have to go to the service center? When is that?
4-Can't the local office ask for I751 before the N400 interview?
5- If yes to question 4, Can I get interview for both I751 and N400 at the same time>?

Thanks in advance.

A1: 90% of jointly filed I-751s are adjudicated at the service centers. The 10% selected for interviews are adjudicated at local offices. However in your case, a pending I-751, even if at the service center, will be adjudicated at the local office prior to your N-400's adjudication.
A2: Read up at http://uscis.gov. All office addresses are there.
A3: See above
A4: N-400 starts at a service center and ends up at the local office.
A5: They will have to, it is not a matter of will they.
A6: Your N-400 interview cannot take place until your I-751 is adjudicated.

From all the experiences I have read about, the N-400 interview takes place after the adjudicator is done with the pending I-751. Mind you, the I-751 component takes place a few minutes before the N-400 interview. So the N-400 interview notices is issued before the I-751 is adjudicated.

Not really true. Many people are interviewed for naturalization when their I-751 is pending. But the N-400 case cannot be approved until the I-751 is approved.
