They have asked him $2500 to process his H-1B. Is this sort of thing trustworthy? He is in India and has asked me to pay this processing fee.
My question is, is this how it normally works?? Does anyone know this company and whether it is legit?

Please help.

Looks funny to me. If I were you, I would be careful. Did you call the numbers provided and ask any questions?

I have in the past

I have called companies like this in the past....but it is of no use really.....if they are a scam artist, how difficult is it for them to put on a 'show' over the phone. They can just pretend to be a real company!!

I would also say that any legit company would have better writing skills. Some of their content has grammatical errors.

One thing you can do to verify the companies credenttials is go to US Dept of labors website. They have a yearly database of all companies that applied for H1. You can download that database and look to see if this company did process any H1 and if so was it approved or rejected.

Here is the link> http://www.flcdatacenter.com/CaseH1B.aspx

OK, I did some research for you, FOR FREE.(It being Friday, and me having too much free time on my hand !). Looks like this company did sponsor 60 H1's in 2004. I am attaching the spreasdsheet showing details of all the H1's done by them in 2004. This has been copied from the Dept. of Labors database. There is data for other years also, but thats all my free service for the day !

Please use your own discretetion when deciding. I am only pointing you to the info that is available.

Hi. you might contact this company and let them pay first. After your friend start to work for this company, they can deduct it from his pay check. I knew some companies have done this before.

good idea but...

markgma,

Good idea but why would the company take a risk as well? What if they paid for all the processing and the person doesnt show up!!

A quick poll for everyone...did anyone pay their own H-1B processing fee to come here from another country?

It will be a case. If you pay for him and he won't come, you need to make sure you get the money from him. If this person is really want to come, he better to take this copmany after they process H1 for him. Otherwise, he will be hard to come due to his credit issue.

In 2000 i paid the money for my H1 just the INS fees the indian consulting company paid the lawyers fee's here after i came to US they returned back the money i paid for the fee's . Their intention was clear ...that incase i change my mind later and plan not to join them i loose my visa fees and they loose their lawyer's fee. They didnt have any bond etc ... off course they got my US ticket etc ....

Thanks for the input...

My friend is willing to pay for all related expenses while waiting for a project. The company said that they will place him in an apartment while waiting for aproject (6 people maybe to an apartment).

In all honesty, this is a small amount to pay considering the potential payback. All we wanted to know was the assurance that they will actually use the money to file the H-1B.

He has 7 years of IT experience so it 'shouldnt' be a problem getting projects!
I have personally seen idiots with ZERO IT experience getting projects.

Additional thoughts

Make sure the H1B is filled and your friend gets his LIN# after its filed so that he can track his approval. Ask your friend to negotiate salary properly if possible go 80-20 or 90-10. Get his GC started and wait forever like all of us.
Also if he is married make sure he got "THE INSURANCE"

My 2 cents:
This is the way many companies are operating nowadays as new H1 quotas are very low and they do not want the person to come in and then leave immediately.
