Help - Green Cards received with an error

We have received green cards with an error saying Residence Since = July 10, 2004, which is PD. I don’t know what to do.

Do we have to replace these cards by filling I-90 forms?

After we file I-90 forms to replace cards, how soon we can new cards?

For travel purpose, we would like to have our passports to be stamped. Can we stamp before filling I-90 forms?

Seems like all these cards were produced in rush, I too got an error in the plastic card my date of birth is incorrect, I will apply for replacement if DMV office does not accept the card for DL renewal.

baby_mde : I strongly recommend not to take any action at this point if your DOB/Name/A# and all other information is right, just do not apply for citizenship based on the plastic card residence date, rest all should be fine.

I strongly suggest you mail in the I-90 and get this corrected.

Today you feel relieved and dont care what you have to do 5 years from now. But I tell you, when it comes time to apply for citizenship, you want things to be PERFECT.

This is an administrative mistake. File the I-90, they will correct this for you.

On the citizenship application form, it asks for the date you became a permanent resident. If you don't correct this before applying, any date you put might be seen as wrong, and your application gets delayed or rejected.

sivaguru,

Can I know reason why you strongly discourage not to take any actions at this time?

Well, it is your obiligation to point out the errors to CIS. (like it or not).
And if you didn't do that, it will haunt you in a later time. Believe me.

baby_mde, For card correction u cannot e-file, u need to send the i-90 form and plastic card to TSC/NSC and with so many backlogs it may take a while to get the receipt#, without receipt# local USCIS may not stamp your passport with I-551 stamp.

Enjoy your status as a permanent resident and dont spoil the mood thinking about all this, I feel as long as you give the card production date(the date you received card production ordered email) as the residence date during naturalization nothing is going to happen. Any how consult your lawyer and decide on the action.

It is our obligation to point out errors in personal info like Name, Date of Birth or even A#.
But resident since date is an admin data which we are not supposed to know exactly. So why should we point out an error in the administrative data filled in by USCIS?

I agree. If my GC ever gets approved ......and if they give my PD(2001) as my resident since...I'm gonna apply for my citizenship and see what happens. :D What can they do? Reject my Citizenship application...big deal!

Also, how are we to know what USCIS is thinking when they put the PD in the GC? Maybe they changed the way they think one is a resident of. You could use this excuse on your Citizenship application. Just plead ignorance.

Knowing how they operate, they probably won't reject it outright and immediately; they will delay it and delay it and you don't know what is going on. And they'll send an RFE about it at some distant time (e.g. some guys are now getting RFE on their medicals that were done in 2005).

Or in the worst case, they'll hold you for fraud for trying to pretend that you have more than 5 years residence when you actually don't.

Hi,

If i was u , i will do nothing. As long as ur Name, DOB, and ur Country name is correct, I will do nothing. Enjoy - they gave u a break(THnaks God for that).

Dont worry too much now

Yes, I would agree with the majority and ask you not to fret too much about the mistake at this time.

For sure USCIS would make several changes to the system from now and the time you apply for citizenship. You would not be gaining much if you try to be proactive at least with regards to tasks relating to USCIS.

Enjoy and enjoy.

Enjoy it while you can to travel back to your country and to find your dream job. Then, after all this you enjoy, apply for correction.
Good luck!!!

Well, if i were you, I wouldn't be concern too much trying to get it corrected.

But I would also not take advantage in trying to get citizenship sooner -- cause 1. USCIS does not go by the date on the card, rather by the date in their system 2. They made a mistake, so it why should you??

Anyways, congrats and enjoy your new status :D :D

Hi,

Yes! you have to apply I-90 and along with your GC plasticard , Birth certificate, then you will go to local USCIS office for GC stamp on Passport with Receipt notice.
Recentyl my wife got DOB wrong on GC , then I sent I-90 along with GC , birth certificate, she got receipt notice from USCIS and got GC stamped on Passort at local USCIS office.

Hi Everyone,

Our 485 is approved in July 2007 and we have received cards. On June 1, 2007 I have applied H1B extension and still pending. What will happen to the pending H1B extension application? Do I have to withdraw H1B application or USCIS will realize that my status is permanent residence and H1B extension will be denied? Please post your experience.
