Help: gap between H4 ->F1

My wife was on H4 status and it expired on June 30, 2006. Her new F1 application was filed on March 23, 2006 and was approved on July 23, 2006, and it was valid from the approval date: July 23, 2006. So there is a gap between these two status. My question is: is her stay in the US legal when the gap is there? Thank you very much for your input.

Yes it is legal, if your F1 would have been denied for any reason, then you are not in status now.
