Help for F1 Visa Interview

Hi Friends
I have my F1 visa interview in July. Are DS forms checked (and scrutinized) when people apply for H1B visa and GC later? My sister is in same university that I am going to. I am not declaring in DS forms that I have a sister. Can any one tell me if a background check is done from India when one files for a H1B and GC?

You must disclose your immediate relatives on your applications. You wouldn't want to risk a life-long ban on entering the US for lying, would you?
