Help! Citizen sending a petition for a spouse.

After a long wait, I finally will become a US citizen next week. However, I have some old post here about my spouse's status. I just want to know what do I need to do to help my spouse apply for a green card. He is currently an illegal alien here (but not working-has an expired tourist visa) and I would like to help him. When I had my interview, I told the truth about my spouse's status and I was really lucky to have a very understanding and kind interviewer :) . She told me to go ahead and start processing my petition for him but I was too nervous at that time and totally forgot to ask her about the forms that I needed
:( .
I would really appreciate if anyone will tell me the things that I should do so I could start working on it as soon as I receive my naturalization certificate.

Thank you very much in advance!

Thank you very much for the help. I'll go ahead and do this as soon as I officially become a US citizen.
Once more, thanks again.

No Need To Have A Lawyer!

Hi,

There is no need to use a lawyer, unless your spouse has a criminal history. I am in the same situation. I should become a citizen soon and my wife is in the same situation. File an I-130, I-485, work permit (if needed). Here is the link with more information:

http://uscis.gov/graphics/formsfee/forms/i-485.htm#fba

Just follow the instructions.

You do not need a lawyer. Save your money!!

kaolack.

Similar situation but need help!

Wife: Canadian Permanent Resident (residing in Canada)
Myself: US Citizen (USC) (residing in USA)

I recently became a USC and faxed/mailed CSC to upgrade my wife's I-130 to USC status (faxed on Jan 7 2005).
As of today CSC is reviewing apps with receipt date of Sept 22, 2004 according to (https://egov.immigration.gov/cris/jsps/Processtimes.jsp?SeviceCenter=California)

I understand there will be a packet sent by National Visa Center (NVC), New Hampshire, but I am trying to be proactive and be ready.

Questions:
1. Will I get an approval notice for I-130?
2. How long after approval does CSC take to forward a case to NVC?
3. What else besides I-864 do I need to file?
4. Since she will be obtaining an immigrant visa is it correct that she wont need to file I-485?
5. Should I seek congressional help to expedite any of these processes?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Hi rzs

I saw your post and i have a question (as i'll be in the same situation as yours soon)

My husband is in US on H1 and had applied for Canandian Green card a couple of years back and has his interview scheduled at the end of this month.

I am a US GC holder and would be applying for citizenship soon. We were just thinking whether or not my husband should go for Canadian GC interview because when i get my US citizenship and upgrade his I-130 , would we be questioned on intent as under the family-based category, you have to prove that marriage is legitimate and that you and your spouse have been living together etc. etc..

Any advice from anyone on the forum would be greatly appreciated.
