Help! Case lost by VSC.

This is a post for my friend.

My friend had applied I-485 back to May 2002. He sent an inquiry for his case in September. At that time, they asked him to wait for a month. And the online status showed as FP done in June. However, last week, his laywer received the response from VSC that his case was lost and asked him to resubmit everything. And this week, the online case status is also changed to no case found.

My question is whether any people has the similar experience. And what is the options for him now?

I remember reading this forum that one guy did not hear anything for a long time. His attorney took appointment in VSC, they lost the files his attorney had everything with him, made copies got the file recreated and with in a week that guy got approval. If you search real hard you might be able to find that thread.
