HELP: Am I in status / legally present if I have receipt?

HELP: Am I in status / legally present if I have receipt?
I am in USA and in H4. My H4 will expire on 09/17/09. I have filed H4 extension and already got receipt.

My question:

1. If I still have not received approval before my expiration, am I still in status?

2. After I received approval, do I need to leave US and reenter again?

---------------------- as you filed H4 extension before I-94 expiry date you are in status.
2. After I received approval, do I need to leave US and reenter again?
----------------------if you get I-94 attached with H4 extension approval you can stay till I-94 validity date
